Horrific moment French gymnast Samir Ait Said breaks leg while performing Men's vault at Rio 2016 Olympics

French athlete Samir Ait Said has tragically broken his leg while performing in the Men's Vault at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
The video above showing the incident contains very graphic content and should not be viewed lightly.
Said was competing in the qualification of the Men's Vault when he landed awkwardly, breaking his left leg below the knee. The cracking noise was so loud it could be heard over the coverage.
Some have said it was so loud it "echoed through the arena".

Following his injury, Said laid motionless and simply put a hand over his face to try and cope with the excruciating pain.

Paramedics immediately rushed to his side, tended to his leg and stretchered the Olympian away.
Upon leaving the building, Said was subject to an ovation from the crowd within the Rio Olympic Arena, and bravely raised a hand to his supporters.
But Olympics staff went on to drop his stretcher as they attempted to load him into the waiting ambulance.

French team leader Corrine Moustard-Callon confirmed Said had broken his leg, adding: "He is in the hospital with a doctor now.

"We don't know what happened, except that it was his tibia. We will do more exams to see if it just the bone.

"It is very difficult for the team. He was one of the friendliest on the team which is very difficult - he came to win a medal and gave everything 200 per cent."
The 26-year-old is most famously know for his performances on the rings and the vault. Having previously won gold on the former at the 2013 European Championships.

Said was also due to compete in the qualification of the men's parallel bars, individual all-round, team all-round, floor exercise, rings and pommel horse.
